The system administrator can't just assume that every Solaris shell they login into is the global zone. Even more problems could arise if the administrator is new or the system just have been handed over to them.

One way to find out which the Solaris container resides is by using this long command :

<span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">find /var -type f -name 'pkginfo' 2>/dev/null |xargs grep "From: " 2>/dev/null |grep -v "From: fern"|awk -F: '{print $6}' 2>/devh/null| <span style="font-family: "courier new" , "courier" , monospace;">awk '{print$1}'|sort|uniq

Sometimes, it will give out the name of the global zone. Please note : sometimes. Not every time the global zone will be given by running the command.

If somehow the global zone does not appear, that means you just have to look elsewhere, eg. : ask the previous system administator.

Hope this helps.Antokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08947093589358323103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35848829.post-90571636794765944442012-05-01T12:43:00.002+07:002012-05-01T12:45:47.049+07:00TP-Link MR-3220 + OpenWRT, lessons learned

Recently I've tried to install modified firmware on my TP-Link MR-3220. It's a decent wifi router, in my opinion. It has a USB port so it can be connected with wireless modems. But I found some difficulties from it. Some modems I owned cannot be detected, while some other can be used, but really hard to connect with the non-bundled network provider. (The wifi router is positioned on the second floor of 3 stories building, so the wireless broadband signal is not good enough).

And then I found OpenWRT. The aim of OpenWRT is basically to replace the stock firmware of wireless router to an open-source, linux based operating system. It even got it's own package manager (OPKG). With it, my broadband modem finally works with the MR-3220 and non-bundled internet provider.

I'm not going to explain how to install and configure it, (the installation is pretty straightforward. Just use the original firmware update page from the web admin). But from my effort to install it, I learnt some important points :

Since it is UNIX based, it is better if you got some experience with UNIX/Linux before using it

The firewall policy is pretty complete. You have to remember to add the network interface you created to at least one of the firewall zone.

The original binary from the trunk, is NOT including web based management interface (LuCI). If you want to have web based management interface (which I think really helps a lot), make sure to use the correct binary, otherwise you will need to go through the process of manually installing the "luci" package

DO NOT try to update the packages. If you want a newer package, install the whole firmware again.

I'm hearing squeaking and clicking noise from it. Then I think before it getting worse, I need to backup the data to another media. A long time ago, I already heard about the tool : "dd" - that is able to backup even a broken hard drive. So, I decided to give it a try.

The command is simple. I just use

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">dd if=/dev/sdc1 of=/home/myname/imagefile conv=noerror,sync

<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier,monospace;">/dev/sdc1 is the partition that I wanted to backup, and after the <span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">of= argument, I put the target image file. The<span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;"> noerror option simply made the reading process going even if an error is found, and the <span style="font-family: "Courier New",Courier, monospace;">sync option.... I'm not sure about it :p. I use it because the tutorials on the web also use it.Antokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08947093589358323103noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35848829.post-1926883281610742522009-05-29T13:18:00.001+07:002009-08-31T11:26:50.543+07:00
Frozen Bubble S60v3 320×240
Based on Frozen Bubble for S60 Project mantained by Elias Konstantinidis. On its default installation it includes IEEE transaction template. But if u try it after a fresh install, u'll only get some sh*t of errors.

So here is the steps to make it (almost) right.

Install Lyx 1.4.3-5 and try to not execute it yet.

download the file IEEEtran.zip. Find it by googling.

extract it to the Miktex installation latex/lyx sub-dir. The default installation path is: C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.5\tex\latex

Run Miktex's 'Settings' from the $tart menu. Click on both "Refresh FNDB" and "Update Formats" just to make sure.

Start Lyx. If u follow my words and not execute it directly after installation, u should see some preconfiguration. Basicly it'll search some missing document classes on Lyx' repo from the internet. If u have a good internet connection and do want to upgdate it then just click "Install" every now and then. Otherwise, just click "Cancel"

After Lyx loads up, select tools- and on the Language Settings- tree untick "use babel". I'm not sure what it's overall effect but it'll remove babel-related errors that complains about "English language not defined".

Try New from template.. under the file menu and select IEEEtran.

Just to make sure try View- Thats all folks..

Oh... btw, almost similar steps may be done on Linux distro. View the complete steps on "theCallipygousCamel - D-Arbalogue" blog at "Using lyx for IEEE transactions" topic. I can't remember the address, but I'm sure googling will do.

powered by performancing firefox

Antokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08947093589358323103noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35848829.post-12035309578691470612006-12-15T16:19:00.001+07:002006-12-15T19:04:00.939+07:00
Ever heard of GKRellM?

It's a small tool for Linux to monitor the usage of the PC resources.

And for Windows?

You wouldn't believe how much links that Google points to a "404 not found" pages when u search it.

But I finally found it . Here, give it a try.

powered by performancing firefox

Antokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08947093589358323103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35848829.post-87126508315663806982006-12-06T09:47:00.001+07:002006-12-06T09:47:51.863+07:00Unix-Like commands on WindowsXP's command prompt
Well, this may sound strange. It offered ugly desktop environment and static system management. But after I tried the 6.06 LTS, the changes they made is quite wonderfull. More user friendly GNOME and administration steps that I finnaly understand.

So, I tried to install it on my notebook PC. Some problems occured... The system lockups at installation process. I think it is because there is not enough physical memory on my notebook.

Then I tried to create swap partition first, but the problem is still occured at the partitioning step. Finally I was able to solve this problem by running gparted first so the installer's partitioner program can be loaded to the memory first.

It takes about half an hour to finish the installation, and my Ubuntu is ready.

Here is my Notebook Ubuntu Laptop test result.

powered by performancing firefox

powered by performancing firefox
Antokhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08947093589358323103noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35848829.post-1160567716919535282006-10-11T18:55:00.000+07:002006-10-11T18:55:16.923+07:00First TimerWelcome to my blog-paradise.

Well this is my first post, so I think it is best to Introduce myself.
My name is Antok, I live in Indonesia, and currently studying at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology.
